SNAKE ID

The Sunshine Coast is home to approximately 20 snake species of which only 8 possess venom toxic enough to be life threatening. It helps to know what snakes are in your area so you can act appropriately if you encounter one!

Snakes vary greatly in colour and pattern between species and even within the same species. It takes many years of practice and work in the field to correctly identify all of these species.

The below information and images are offered as a guide only. You should always consult a licenced snake catcher to get a positive identification.

You can obtain an ID by sending us a clear photo using any of the following avenues. Please don’t forget to include the location the snake was found.
